Freight forwarder in Trondheim: from the UK to central Norway without reloading

Moving goods from the United Kingdom to the Trøndelag region involves a long road journey across several countries and a customs border at the Norwegian frontier. As your freight forwarder in Trondheim, DAGO Express assigns one vehicle to the entire trip: the goods are loaded at your site in Britain and unloaded at the consignee's address in Trondheim. With no stop at a groupage depot and no transfer to another vehicle along the way, the risk of damage and delay is lower.

A vehicle is normally at your loading bay 60 to 120 minutes after the booking is confirmed, or at a fixed time that suits your schedule. With a documented punctuality rate of 99.5 %, deliveries can be planned with confidence at the receiving end. Throughout the journey, your shipment is monitored around the clock, and our on-call service also covers weekends and public holidays.

What we move to Trondheim

Research and laboratory equipment, electronic components, medical devices, machinery and spare parts, building materials, furniture and exhibition stands are regular consignments. Suppliers and producers in the Trondheim region can also send goods to Great Britain in the same direct way.

Freight transport Trondheim and

Logistics in Trondheim: technology, research and the Trøndelag coast

Trondheim is Norway's third-largest city, with around 215,000 residents, and the main regional centre of Trøndelag. The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the research organisation SINTEF have made the city a major centre for engineering, ICT, energy technology and medical research. Many technology companies have grown out of this academic environment, and their supply chains create steady work for a logistics company.

The wider region adds other important industries. Aquaculture along the Trøndelag coast produces large quantities of salmon, while metal processing, construction and food production remain important in the surrounding municipalities. Nidaros Cathedral and the historic city centre attract visitors throughout the year, and conferences and events create extra demand for exhibition stands, displays and technical equipment.

Trondheim Airport Værnes lies in Stjørdal, east of the city, and the local port handles cargo along the fjord, including at Orkanger to the west. Even so, for many consignments from Western Europe, direct freight transport by road is the practical choice: with a direct haulage service from the UK, sensitive research equipment or urgent machinery parts do not wait for consolidation and are not handled at intermediate terminals.

The route from the UK to Trondheim

The journey starts with the Dover–Calais ferry or Le Shuttle between Folkestone and Coquelles. The vehicle then crosses Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany into Denmark, continues over the Great Belt and Øresund bridges into Sweden, and follows the E6 north along the west coast past Gothenburg to the Norwegian border at Svinesund. After Oslo, the E6 continues north through Hamar, Lillehammer and the Gudbrandsdalen valley and crosses the Dovrefjell plateau to Trondheim.

Depending on current timetables, a ferry from Kiel to Oslo can replace part of the land route. A further haulage option runs through central Sweden on the E14, which crosses into Norway at Storlien and reaches Trondheim via Stjørdal. In winter, the Dovrefjell and other mountain stretches can be affected by heavy snow, so the season is always part of the transport planning.

Customs between the UK and Norway

Norway belongs to the European Economic Area but is outside the EU, so it keeps its own customs border. A consignment from Great Britain needs a UK export declaration, usually a transit procedure such as T1 for the journey through the EU, and a Norwegian import declaration. GVMS links the documents to the vehicle when it leaves the UK. Please organise the declarations with your customs agent in advance, as DAGO Express does not provide customs clearance.

Collection and delivery in Trondheim and the surrounding area

We deliver throughout Trondheim, from the city centre and the university campuses at Gløshaugen and Dragvoll to the business and industrial areas at Sluppen, Tiller and Heimdal in the south, as well as Lade, Leangen and Tunga in the east. Since the 2020 merger with Klæbu, the municipality reaches further south, and we deliver there as well. Neighbouring municipalities such as Malvik, Melhus, Stjørdal and Skaun are covered too, and Orkanger or Levanger can be added as a second stop for your pallet delivery.

Research institutes and hospitals often have specific delivery points and strict reception times, while construction sites need precise unloading times. Share these details when booking, and we will plan the vehicle and arrival time around the site.

Choosing the vehicle for Trondheim

Small but urgent consignments travel in a minivan with two pallet spaces and a capacity of up to 450 kg. Curtain-sided vans take 8 to 10 pallets and up to 1,200 kg in a load space measuring up to 480 × 210 × 210 cm. A 6 LDM lorry is suitable for 14 pallets and up to 2,400 kg. Full loads move in an articulated lorry with 33 pallet spaces and a capacity of up to 24 tonnes.

Frequently asked questions about freight transport in Trondheim

How many pallets can freight transport in Trondheim carry?

Capacity depends on pallet dimensions, weight and the vehicle. Share the shipment details so we can plan a suitable truck.

Can I request a tail lift for freight transport in Trondheim?

Yes. Tell us if neither the pickup nor delivery site has a loading dock or forklift; we will check the availability of a suitable vehicle.

When should I choose a part load or a full truck load for Trondheim?

That depends on volume, weight and delivery date. A part load shares available space; a full load reserves a vehicle for your freight.

Small and urgent shipment? See courier service in Trondheim

How soon can my goods for Trondheim be collected?

After booking, a vehicle usually reaches your UK premises within 60 to 120 minutes. If you need the collection at a specific time, a fixed slot can be agreed instead.

Which route does freight from the UK to Trondheim follow?

After the Channel, the vehicle drives through Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Sweden to Oslo, then north on the E6 via Lillehammer and Dovrefjell. The E14 through Sweden or a Kiel–Oslo ferry are alternatives.

Do I need customs declarations for freight to Norway?

Yes. Norway is outside the EU customs territory, so you need a UK export declaration, a transit procedure through the EU and a Norwegian import declaration. Please arrange these with your customs agent.

Is my consignment reloaded during the transport to Trondheim?

No. The same vehicle carries your goods from the UK to the delivery address in Trondheim, including across the Danish and Swedish bridges, and there is no stop at a groupage depot.

Can you deliver research equipment to NTNU or SINTEF sites?

Yes, university and research sites are part of our delivery area. Tell us the building, the reception times and any special handling needs when booking, and consider additional insurance for valuable instruments.

How does winter affect deliveries to Trondheim?

Mountain stretches such as Dovrefjell can see snow and temporary closures in winter. We plan the route with the season in mind, but please allow some flexibility for deliveries during the winter months.

Which vehicle is suitable for a part load to Trondheim?

A 6 LDM lorry with 14 pallets and up to 2,400 kg or a curtain-sided van with 8 to 10 pallets suits most part loads. Full loads travel in an articulated lorry with 33 pallets.

How is freight to Trondheim insured?

Cover through the Schunck Group applies up to 8.33 SDR per kilogram of gross weight. For higher-value goods, you can add extra insurance at short notice before the transport starts.

How do I follow my shipment to Trondheim?

You receive a tracking link after booking and emails at collection and delivery. Regular customers can also see ETAs, KPIs and reports for all their orders in the DAGO ShipperHub.

How can I get a price for freight to Trondheim?

Our online price calculator shows the price within seconds once you enter the postcodes, the dimensions and the weight. You can also book in the DAGO app or request a quote by email.
