From there, the Raccordo Perugia–Bettolle dual carriageway runs past Lake Trasimeno straight to Perugia.

An alternative leads along the Adriatic on the A14 to Cesena and then south on the E45, which follows the Tiber valley through Umbria. Which option we choose depends on the collection point, traffic and any additional stops. In either case, Italian restrictions on heavy lorries on Sundays and public holidays are built into the transport plan.

Italy is part of the EU, so goods from Great Britain need an export declaration in the UK and an import declaration on the EU side. The shipper and the recipient each need a valid EORI number. At Dover and the Channel Tunnel, the declarations are connected to the vehicle through GVMS and a Goods Movement Reference.
