Order transport from or to Bratislava

Freight forwarder in Bratislava: road freight from the UK to the Slovak capital

Bratislava lies on the Danube right next to the Austrian and Hungarian borders, and is one of the major industrial locations in Central Europe. As a freight forwarder in Bratislava for UK companies, DAGO Express delivers there without intermediate stops. One vehicle loads your goods in Britain and brings them straight to the recipient in Slovakia. Your load is not broken up at a groupage depot, so it is handled only twice, at the start and at the end, which reduces the risk of damage in transit and keeps responsibility for your road freight clear.

A vehicle usually reaches your premises 60 to 120 minutes after the booking, or at a fixed collection time if you prefer. Our documented punctuality rate of 99.5 % makes the arrival predictable. That matters for just-in-time production and for fitting a pallet delivery into busy warehouse unloading schedules.

Consignments for the Slovak capital

Automotive parts form a large share of the loads, alongside machinery, electronic components, chemicals in approved packaging and packaging materials. Office furniture, IT equipment and e-commerce stock for the growing service sector are other examples. Slovak businesses can also send goods from Bratislava to England, Scotland and Wales through the same direct service, so both directions of your supply chain are covered by one transport company.

Logistics in Bratislava: cars, services and the Danube

Around 475,000 people live in Bratislava, the capital and largest city of Slovakia. The city is the country's political and economic centre, and the surrounding region is among the most prosperous in Central and Eastern Europe. Slovakia is one of the world's largest car producers per head of population, and Bratislava plays a key part in this output. The Volkswagen plant in the Devínska Nová Ves district is one of the largest industrial employers in the country and draws in components from suppliers across Europe, which creates constant demand for haulage.

Beyond the automotive industry, the city has a strong base in electronics, chemicals, food processing and shared service centres for international companies. The Port of Bratislava on the Danube handles bulk goods and containers, while M. R. Štefánik Airport in the east of the city offers air cargo capacity. Large logistics parks have grown along the motorways towards Senec and to the north near Lozorno and Malacky, where many logistics firms operate.

Its location also makes Bratislava a meeting point for three countries. Vienna is only about 60 km away, and the Hungarian border lies just south of the city. Many companies therefore supply customers in Austria and Hungary from here, and freight transport from Britain often continues to more than one country after arrival.

The route from the UK to Bratislava

After crossing the Channel from Dover to Calais or through the Channel Tunnel on Le Shuttle, the vehicle drives through Belgium and Germany. The most common route enters Austria at Passau, continues on the A1 West Autobahn via Linz to Vienna, and then follows the A4 East Autobahn and the A6 to the Slovak border at Kittsee and Jarovce. A second option runs through the Czech Republic via Prague and Brno, joining the Slovak D2 at the border near Kúty.

Around Bratislava, the D1 heads north-east towards Trnava and Žilina, the D2 connects the Czech border with Hungary at Čunovo, and the D4 ring motorway links these routes on the southern and eastern side of the city. Heavier vehicles pay an electronic toll on Slovak and Austrian motorways, and Austrian weekend restrictions for large lorries are taken into account when the route is planned.

Customs for Slovakia

Slovakia is an EU member state, so goods from Great Britain need an export declaration in the UK and an import declaration in the EU. The exporter and the importer must each have a valid EORI number. Before the vehicle crosses at Dover or the Channel Tunnel, GVMS links the declarations to it with a Goods Movement Reference. Please organise the declarations with your customs agent ahead of the collection date, as DAGO Express does not prepare customs documents.

Collection and delivery in Bratislava and the surrounding area

We deliver throughout the city, from Devínska Nová Ves and Lamač in the north-west to Ružinov, Nové Mesto and Rača, and from Petržalka south of the Danube to the port and industrial areas in Podunajské Biskupice and Vrakuňa. Beyond the city limits, we also deliver to Senec, Pezinok, Stupava, Šamorín and the logistics parks around Lozorno and Malacky. Trnava, with its own car plant and supplier base, can be combined with Bratislava in one route.

Automotive plants and logistics parks usually work with firm time slots and gate procedures. Please share such details and any special unloading requirements when booking, so that the vehicle arrives prepared. Deliveries into the old town below the castle follow tighter access rules and are easier to complete with a smaller vehicle.

Which vehicle to choose

For supplier deliveries, the 7.2 LDM lorry with 18 pallets and up to 5,000 kg or the 6 LDM lorry with 14 pallets is often used. Complete loads move in the articulated lorry with 13.6 loading metres and up to 24 tonnes. For office and retail consignments, the van with tail lift and pallet truck takes up to eight pallets and makes a pallet delivery possible at locations without a loading bay.

Deliveries to more than 38 countries

Your freight company for Bratislava and Slovakia

The DAGO Express network comprises more than 50,000 vehicles in 38 countries, and over 15,000 companies organise their freight transport through it. If a vehicle breaks down, a replacement vehicle takes over the consignment to maintain the schedule. Cross-border runs are handled by verified partners with a valid EU licence and, if the goods demand it, an ADR licence. Every shipment is monitored around the clock, including weekends and public holidays.

Insurance through the Schunck Group covers up to 8.33 SDR per kilogram of gross weight, and valuable goods can be insured additionally at short notice. A tracking link follows immediately after booking, and emails confirm collection and delivery. The DAGO ShipperHub brings orders, ETAs, KPI tracking and real-time reports together and can be connected to your ERP system.
