Order transport from or to Lisbon

Freight forwarder in Lisbon: from the UK to the Tagus without reloading

Moving goods from the UK to Portugal's capital covers well over 2,000 km, and a freight forwarder in Lisbon should make that distance feel manageable. With DAGO Express, one vehicle takes care of the whole journey. It collects at your site in Britain and delivers straight to the address in Lisbon, with no transfer to a second lorry and no sorting at a groupage depot on the way. Because the goods are handled only when they are loaded and when they are unloaded, the risk of damage is kept to a minimum.

A vehicle usually arrives for loading 60 to 120 minutes after the booking, and collection at a fixed time is possible too. Our documented punctuality rate is 99.5 %.

What we carry to Lisbon

Frequent loads include furniture and shop fittings, IT hardware and electronic components, building materials, machinery and spare parts, printed matter, packaging, medical devices and exhibition stands. Portuguese companies can use the service the other way round as well, sending goods to customers in England, Wales or Scotland through the same booking process and with the same direct planning. Whether you need a single pallet delivery or a full load, the transport stays direct, with no groupage delays.

Logistics in Lisbon: capital and Atlantic port

Lisbon is Portugal's capital and the centre of a metropolitan area of close to three million people. The city is home to the government, head offices of many Portuguese companies, a growing number of international tech and service firms and one of Europe's most popular tourist destinations. Retail, hospitality, construction and events all generate constant demand for goods, from hotel furniture to IT equipment and building materials.

The Port of Lisbon stretches along the Tagus estuary and handles containers, bulk goods and cruise ships. Much of the large-scale storage and distribution has moved to the corridor north of the city along the A1, around Alverca, Carregado and Azambuja, where there is space for modern facilities. On the south bank, the port of Setúbal and the car plant in Palmela add further industrial activity. Humberto Delgado Airport lies close to the city centre and also handles air cargo. Any logistics company working here has to deal with both dense urban streets and large industrial zones.

The FIL exhibition centre on the former Expo 98 grounds by the river hosts trade fairs, conferences and events throughout the year, and these need stands and materials delivered on precise dates. For British suppliers, direct freight transport from the UK with planned collection times is a practical way to reach both the city and the logistics areas around it, especially when a fair or a store opening sets a firm deadline.

The route from the UK to Lisbon

Most shipments start with the Channel crossing on the Dover–Calais ferry or on Le Shuttle between Folkestone and Coquelles, followed by the drive through western France to the Spanish border at Irun. Alternatively, the ferries from Portsmouth to Santander or Bilbao shorten the road distance considerably. In Spain, the vehicle crosses the Meseta either via Burgos, Valladolid and Salamanca to the border at Vilar Formoso or via Madrid and the A-5 to Badajoz and Elvas.

In Portugal, the A6 continues from Elvas towards the coast and joins the motorways into Lisbon, while from Vilar Formoso the A25 and A23 lead to the A1. The 25 de Abril and Vasco da Gama bridges connect the city with the south bank of the Tagus. Which bridge is used depends on the delivery address.

Customs between the UK and Portugal

As an EU member state, Portugal requires an import declaration in the EU for goods from Great Britain, in addition to the UK export declaration. Sender and importer both need EORI numbers. At Dover, the Channel Tunnel and the ferry ports with sailings to Spain, the Goods Vehicle Movement Service links the declarations to the vehicle. Please arrange all declarations with your customs agent before collection, so that the paperwork is ready when the vehicle reaches the port. We do not prepare customs declarations or handle customs clearance.

Collection and delivery in Lisbon and the surrounding area

We deliver across the capital, from the shops and offices of Baixa and Avenida da Liberdade to Alcântara, Belém, Marvila and the modern business district on the former Expo 98 site. Other municipalities in the metropolitan area are covered as well, including Loures, Odivelas, Amadora, Oeiras, Sintra and Cascais. On the south bank, Almada, Seixal, Barreiro and Setúbal can be reached across the bridges, and the logistics parks along the A1 can be combined with a delivery in the city.

The historic districts have steep, narrow streets, and many shops accept deliveries only at certain times. Please mention time windows, access restrictions and the need for a tail lift when booking. We need this information to select the right vehicle for the job.

Vehicles for Lisbon

For inner-city deliveries, a van with a tail lift and pallet truck is often the most practical option: it carries eight pallets and up to 800 kg, with a maximum of 550 kg per package. It is well suited to pallet delivery on tight city streets. Larger consignments go on a 6 LDM lorry with 14 pallets and up to 2,400 kg. Full loads for the logistics areas outside the city travel on an articulated lorry with 33 Euro pallets and up to 24 tonnes.

Frequently Asked Questions about our courier service Lisbon

How soon after booking can goods for Lisbon be collected?

Usually a vehicle arrives at your premises in the UK 60 to 120 minutes after the booking. If your site has loading slots, you can also book a fixed collection time.

Which routes lead from the UK to Lisbon?

The vehicle either drives through France to Irun or takes a ferry from Portsmouth to Santander or Bilbao. It then crosses Spain via Salamanca or Madrid and enters Portugal at Vilar Formoso or Elvas.

Is my consignment transferred to another vehicle on the way to Lisbon?

No. Your goods travel on one vehicle from collection in the UK to delivery in Lisbon. There is no reloading at a groupage depot and no change of lorry on the way.

What customs documents are required for Portugal?

You need a UK export declaration, an EU import declaration and valid EORI numbers for sender and importer. Please have your customs agent prepare these before the goods are collected.

Can you deliver stands to the FIL exhibition centre?

Yes. Please give us the hall, the delivery window and the organiser's access rules when booking. We then choose a vehicle that fits the unloading conditions at the venue.

Do you deliver to the logistics parks north of Lisbon?

Yes. Sites along the A1 around Alverca, Carregado and Azambuja are covered, and a delivery there can be combined with a drop in the city if your consignment has two addresses.

Which vehicle suits a delivery to a shop in central Lisbon?

A van with a tail lift and pallet truck carries up to eight pallets and 800 kg, with a maximum of 550 kg per package, and can unload on narrow streets without a ramp.

How is freight to Lisbon insured?

The Schunck Group insures your goods up to 8.33 SDR per kilogram of gross weight. For valuable shipments, extra insurance can be added at short notice before departure.

How can I track my consignment to Lisbon?

You receive a tracking link after booking and email notifications at collection and delivery. Regular shippers can view orders, ETAs and KPIs in the DAGO ShipperHub.

How do I get a price for freight to Lisbon?

Enter postcodes, dimensions and weight in the online price calculator, and your price appears within seconds. You can also book in the DAGO app or request a quote by email.
