Varna: port, industry and tourism

Varna is Bulgaria's third-largest city and the administrative centre of Varna Province. Often called the country's sea capital, it has a long maritime tradition, with a major commercial port, shipbuilding and ship repair, the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy and a range of maritime service companies. The port operates terminals in the city itself and further inland on Lake Beloslav, connected to the sea by a canal. This makes the area an important location for road freight and maritime logistics.

West of the city, around Devnya and Beloslav, lies one of Bulgaria's largest industrial areas, featuring chemical production, building materials and energy. The route from the UK to Varna

After crossing the Channel from Dover to Calais or through the Channel Tunnel from Folkestone to Coquelles, the vehicle travels through Belgium, Germany, Austria and Hungary into Romania. For haulage to Varna, the usual Danube crossing is the Friendship Bridge between Giurgiu and Ruse, south of Bucharest.
