Freight forwarder in Le Havre: direct road freight from the UK to the Seine estuary

Le Havre is only a short drive from the Channel coast, yet many shipments from Britain still take a detour through consolidation centres. DAGO Express works differently. As a freight forwarder in Le Havre, we load your goods onto one vehicle at your UK site and send the consignment straight to the delivery address in Normandy. With no stop for reloading and no handling in a groupage depot, the risk of damage in transit is lower and your supply chain keeps moving.

Vehicles typically reach the collection point 60 to 120 minutes after booking, and you can also fix a loading time for your pallet delivery. Our punctuality rate is a documented 99.5 %. That reliability is especially useful when your road freight has to meet a vessel cut-off at a port terminal or a production slot on the industrial estates along the estuary.

Loads we move to Le Havre

Machinery and spare parts, chemical products in approved packaging, automotive parts, building materials, packaging and e-commerce goods are among the typical consignments. Many British exporters also send goods to forwarding agents at the port for onward shipping by sea. Traffic works both ways, so companies in Seine-Maritime can use the same freight transport service to deliver back to customers across the UK.

Logistics in Le Havre: France's gateway for container traffic

With about 165,000 inhabitants, Le Havre is the largest city in Seine-Maritime and one of the most important port cities in Europe. Its port is part of HAROPA Port, which groups Le Havre, Rouen and Paris along the Seine, and it handles more container traffic than any other French port. The deep-water terminals of Port 2000 serve large container vessels on intercontinental routes, and a dense network of shipping lines, agents and logistics companies has grown around them.

Industry is equally present across the region. The estuary is home to refineries and petrochemical plants around Gonfreville-l'Orcher and Port-Jérôme, while a vehicle plant in Sandouville adds automotive supply traffic. Engineering and maintenance companies serving the port and the energy sector need spare parts, tools and heavy equipment on short schedules.

The city centre, rebuilt after the Second World War to plans by Auguste Perret, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and attracts cruise passengers and visitors. For British businesses, Le Havre is therefore both a delivery destination in its own right and a starting point for sea freight to other continents, which makes punctual road freight from the UK a key part of the chain.

The route from the UK to Le Havre

Most vehicles cross on the ferry from Dover to Calais, while Le Shuttle offers the tunnel alternative between Folkestone and Coquelles. On the French side, the A16 follows the coast south to Abbeville, where the A28 continues towards Rouen. Near Neufchâtel-en-Bray the vehicle switches to the A29, which runs west via Yvetot to Le Havre, roughly 280 km from Calais. For loads collected along the south coast, the Newhaven–Dieppe ferry is another option, leaving around 110 km of road to Le Havre. We choose the crossing according to where the goods are collected.

The Pont de Normandie crosses the Seine estuary towards Honfleur and the A13, which links Caen and Paris, while the A131 leads to the Tancarville bridge. Collections from the Portsmouth area can also use the ferry to Caen and approach Le Havre over the Pont de Normandie.

Customs formalities for Normandy

Because France is an EU member, goods from Great Britain require an export declaration in the UK and an import declaration on arrival in the EU, with EORI numbers for both sides. At the ports and the Channel Tunnel, GVMS links these declarations to the vehicle through a Goods Movement Reference. DAGO Express does not handle customs clearance; please have your customs agent prepare everything before loading begins.

Collection and delivery in Le Havre and the surrounding area

We serve the whole Le Havre Seine Métropole area, from the port zones and the docks to the city centre and the residential districts on the plateau. Harfleur, Montivilliers, Gonfreville-l'Orcher, Sainte-Adresse, Octeville-sur-Mer and Gainneville are regular delivery points, as are the logistics parks close to the A29. Further along the estuary and the coast, Bolbec, Lillebonne, Fécamp, Étretat and Honfleur can be combined in the same tour.

Port terminals and industrial sites usually require advance registration, security checks or specific loading times. Pass on the access rules, reference numbers and contact details when you book, and we will make sure the driver has everything needed at the gate.

Which vehicle fits your consignment

Small parts or documents on a pallet travel in a minivan for up to two pallets and 450 kg. A standard van carries four pallets and up to 800 kg. If your load is heavier, a 6 LDM lorry with room for 14 pallets and up to 2,400 kg is available, and full loads for the port or industrial customers move in a 13.6 LDM articulated lorry, which takes 33 Euro pallets and up to 24 tonnes with an interior of 1,360 × 240 × 270 cm.

Frequently asked questions about freight transport in Le Havre

How many pallets can freight transport in Le Havre carry?

Capacity depends on pallet dimensions, weight and the vehicle. Share the shipment details so we can plan a suitable truck.

Can I request a tail lift for freight transport in Le Havre?

Yes. Tell us if neither the pickup nor delivery site has a loading dock or forklift; we will check the availability of a suitable vehicle.

When should I choose a part load or a full truck load for Le Havre?

That depends on volume, weight and delivery date. A part load shares available space; a full load reserves a vehicle for your freight.

Small and urgent shipment? See courier service in Le Havre

How quickly can a vehicle load my goods for Le Havre?

Usually 60 to 120 minutes after you confirm the booking, a vehicle arrives at your premises in the UK. You can also fix an exact collection time if your warehouse needs it.

Can you deliver to a container terminal or forwarding agent at the port?

Yes. Give us the terminal or warehouse address, booking references and any cut-off time. We plan the direct transport so that the goods arrive ready for the next step in your supply chain.

Which crossing is used for freight to Le Havre?

Most loads cross Dover–Calais or take Le Shuttle and then use the A16, A28 and A29. From the south coast, Newhaven–Dieppe or Portsmouth–Caen can shorten the road leg.

Do I need customs documents for Le Havre?

Yes. Goods from Great Britain need a UK export declaration, an EU import declaration and EORI numbers for both parties. Your customs agent arranges these, and GVMS links them to the vehicle.

Can you transport chemical products to the estuary industrial zone?

Chemical goods can be carried by verified partners with a valid ADR licence where required. Please state the UN number and packaging details when booking so we can assign the right vehicle.

What do I need to tell you about access to port sites?

Please share registration requirements, reference numbers, opening hours and a contact on site. This allows the driver to pass security checks at the gate without delay.

How big is the largest vehicle?

Our largest option is a 13.6 LDM articulated lorry with an interior of 1,360 × 240 × 270 cm. It carries 33 Euro pallets and up to 24 tonnes.

Is my shipment reloaded before it reaches Le Havre?

No. The vehicle that collects in the UK takes the goods directly to the delivery address in Le Havre, without transferring them to another vehicle or a groupage depot.

How are my goods insured on the way to Normandy?

Your freight is insured through the Schunck Group up to 8.33 SDR per kilogram of gross weight. You can add extra insurance at short notice if the goods are worth more.

How do I get a price for road freight to Le Havre?

Open the online price calculator and enter the postcodes, dimensions and weight to see your price in seconds. Quotes by email and bookings in the DAGO app are also possible.
