Pallet shipping refers to the transport of goods on standardized loading areas (pallets) by freight forwarding companies. It is ideal for bulky, heavy, or large shipments in commercial and private shipping.
Stability, efficiency, and planning are the focus of pallet shipping. The pallet, usually made of wood or plastic, forms the basis. It serves as a loading aid for goods and facilitates handling with forklifts. The Euro pallet, standardized according to DIN EN 13698-1, is particularly common. It measures 120 × 80 cm and is often used in the swap system.
A key term is load securing. This involves securing the goods with tensioning straps, stretch film, or edge protectors. This protects against transport damage and complies with legal requirements. The goods should be evenly distributed and not protrude beyond the edge of the pallet.
Another aspect is the pallet size. In addition to Euro pallets, there are also industrial pallets (120 × 100 cm) and disposable pallets. These are often cheaper, but not exchangeable. It is important that the dimensions fit the loading area of the truck or container.
