Just in sequence: Definition and Examples

What is just in sequence?

Just in sequence (JiS) is an extension of the just-in-time principle. Required parts are delivered not only on time, but also in the exact order of their assembly.

Just in sequence: Sequence meets timing

Just in sequence combines punctual delivery with the exact sequence of parts provision. The goal is to provide parts not only at the right time, but also in the exact required sequence. This streamlines assembly processes and minimizes sources of error. Especially for products with a wide variety of variants, JiS is an important component of efficient production planning.

The method is primarily used in the automotive industry. When different vehicle models are manufactured on a line, each part must arrive on the line in the correct order. Bumpers, seats, or dashboards are typical JiS components. They vary depending on the model, equipment, or color. An incorrect sequence would delay or even stop production.
