A transport order is a binding contract between a client and a freight carrier for the execution of a transport operation. It contains all relevant information regarding the cargo, pickup and delivery locations, as well as dates and special features.
A transport order is more than just a delivery note. It is the legal and operational basis for any transport of goods. Without it, no orderly process in the transport industry is possible. It clearly defines who is to transport what, where, and under what conditions.
In everyday logistics, the transport order is usually issued in writing – digitally or on paper. It contains the most important key data: sender, recipient, cargo, weight, dimensions, pickup time, delivery time, means of transport, and special instructions. Information regarding insurance, packaging, or customs clearance can also be part of the order.
